Augmentation technologies in Automobiles

Due to excess use of non-renewable resource which are reducing day by day have presented a requirement to provide excellent fuel efficiency and superb performance automobile. There are few technologies which are used by the automobile manufacturers. We all are very aware about their names but let's see the technologies behind them.

I-VTEC (intelligent variable valve timing and lift electronic control)

I-VTEC is the latest modern technology in VTEC development, which combines the features of VTEC and VTC (variable timing control). Due to this combination fuel economy, ample torque, and clean emissions can be obtained. A VTEC controls the intake valve timing and lift , where as the VTC controls the valve overlap timing. In I-VTEC, I stands for intelligent where it can control both, camshaft duration and valve lift, not only change the valve timing for the exhaust and induction strokes.
Currently Honda has adopted I-VTEC in its large capacity four cylinder petrol engines, increasing the fuel efficiency of the vehicle, clear emissions, reducing weight, higher output, increased torque and improving driving comfort with lots of other benefits. This technology was introduced by Honda in 2002 Honda CR-V.

iSmart

Hero splendor has showcased iSmart model which features i3S (intelligent start stop system). Increasing the fuel efficiency of the vehicle.
In this system if the engine is idling for more then 30 seconds then the engine will switch off the ignition. Including when the engine is in neutral condition put on halt for more then 5 seconds then it shuts off and come back to life while applying the clutch.hence a huge amout of fuel is saved in increases its fuel efficiency. This system is beneficial in the traffic conditions also tagged by the compny as “ fill it, shut it, forget it.”

DTSI (Digital Twin Spark Ignition System)

As we know that an ideal combustion is not possible in any engine. However we can improve its performance by making the combustion of fuel as fast as possible. This is done by using two spark plugs located at opposite ends of combustion chamber. This two spark plus spark alternatively, increasing the area covered by the flame and burning the fuel instantaneously. This is beneficial for our fuel efficiency. It is a digital system static spark advance and moving parts which can wear. The simulation is controlled by digital electronic control box which handles valce timing and fuel injectiom.
It provides many advantages as fuel efficiency, proper combustion, less vibration and noise, more power, long life, no over heating, increase the thermal efficiency of engine, better starting in all weather conditions, instantaneous burning of fuels. In india this technology is adopted by Bajaj, currently used in  platina, xcd125, 135, discover 150,pulsar135, 150, 180, 200 etc.

Stay tuned for more such interesting stuffs!!
